Another good band bites the dust.... or not?

Chris Cornell Talks Audioslave Split, Nixes Soundgarden Reunion

Singer wishes former bandmates 'nothing but the best.'

"Due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences, I am permanently leaving the band Audioslave," he said in a statement. "I wish the other three members" — guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk — "nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors."

That was the extent of Cornell's statement regarding his departure. But this afternoon, when MTV News spoke with Cornell about his decision to leave Audioslave, he said he had been thinking about leaving since the band finished recording its last effort, Revelations.

"It was clear to all of us we needed some time apart, and what that produces is anybody's guess," he said. "In my case, it produced a very prolific writing period, and getting back into writing songs on my own, liking what that means — which is sort of a freedom and time to just experiment with music to a degree I kind of like more — and making records that have everything I like about music in them. Audioslave was a very fresh collaboration because it was very much like a young band, where you all write together in a room. But my experience, in terms of songwriting and record-creating, is not like a 19-year-old guy in a rock band. For me to be satisfied, I think I need to be able to be on my own, in the long run."

The announcement comes just two weeks after Rage Against the Machine revealed they would be reuniting for this year's Coachella festival in Indio, California, on April 29, ending seven years of dormancy (see "Rage Against The Machine To Reunite For Coachella Festival"). It also raises speculation as to what the future holds for Rage — and whether a Soundgarden reunion could be in the works.

Rumors of Cornell's departure began last fall, when Audioslave elected not to tour behind last year's Revelations LP.

Earlier this month, Morello told MTV News that, for now, the Rage reunion would be a one-off, adding that his principal focus at the moment is his solo project, the Nightwatchman (see "Nightwatchman, Rage Reunion Have Morello Fired Up For Political Fights").

Morello said at the time that he wasn't sure what would become of Audioslave, saying that "Audioslave is currently not touring on the record" because "Chris [Cornell] did not want to tour. To me, it seems that the world needs songs of rebellion and revolution right now."

Just weeks before Rage were named one of Coachella's headlining acts, Morello demurred when asked by MTV News whether Audioslave was over, saying "[people] have been telling me Audioslave was breaking up for some time now. No new news there." He would not officially describe the band's status.

Cornell's album, which was helmed by producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Rolling Stones) and is the follow-up to 1999's Euphoria Morning, will be in stores May 1. The LP will contain 14 tracks, including "Safe and Sound," "Scar on the Sky" and a slow-grind cover of Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean."

In July, Cornell denied Audioslave-split rumors, months before the band issued Revelations (see "Chris Cornell Working On Solo LP — But Dismisses Rumors Of Audioslave Split").

Of course, Cornell's since had a serious change of heart. "It hadn't really crossed my mind until a few days ago that I really have no intention of being in this band," he said. "It's been asked before, but it wasn't ever clear in my mind before, and I didn't really see any reason why we couldn't be a band at some point. But now, my feelings are what they are, and I just wanted to get things out on the table and be clear about it."

Cornell said the split was amicable and that, as far as he's concerned, Audioslave is finished, "Unless they want to go find another singer and go make other Audioslave records — then maybe they can have two bands, with a different singer for Rage and a different singer for Audioslave, and they could go on tour and open for each other.

"I certainly don't have any animosity toward them, and I don't think anyone hates me," he continued. "And to be honest, I think those guys getting back and doing some Rage shows is great. I think one of the main reasons why I ever wanted a band like Audioslave was because of seeing Rage in 1996, and I thought they were one of the best live bands I had ever seen. That's why I wanted to do it. The thought of those guys playing shows and maybe becoming a band again I think is a great thing. There were times in Audioslave where I wondered whether those guys missed the visceral nature of the audience response that Rage would get. We had a different experience and a different crowd, but it was so specific to Rage, that kind of world that they were in, that I often wondered if they missed it."

Cornell said that Audioslave will issue a greatest-hits collection with some unreleased material at some point, "because whoever it is we owe it to will say, 'OK, we're going to put that out now,' because that's what labels do." He said he wasn't sure which label the best-of was owed to the band released records through a partnership between Epic and Interscope.

And when asked about Soundgarden possibly reuniting, Cornell said it was doubtful. "I haven't received any phone calls from anyone in Soundgarden about a reunion since we broke up, nor have I called anyone," he said. "We were happy with how it ended. There was no unfinished business. Soundgarden wasn't a band where we broke up and everyone was like, 'I'm never f---ing talking to you again.' It wasn't like that. We've all talked to each other many times since then. Its something we don't feel we need to do."

"We hear rumors that Audioslave is breaking up all the time," he said. "Even in the beginning, when we were having business problems and we weren't necessarily going to be a band, we were still going to put out a record. We made a record and we loved it. I think that's where it starts — the idea that we sort of started on shaky ground. You would hope that by now, putting out our third record, people wouldn't be thinking that way or be worried about it. But it comes up. I always just ignore it."

Aduss..... there goes one of my fav band. I remembered the time when the self titled 1st album 'Audioslave' came out in 2002-2003. I was fucking jobless. Melepak jek keje siang malam kat umah, kat lubuk puaka apartment teratai mewah tu. Emotionally gile babi nyer tak stabil.. (still struggling with the broken heart disease lagi..hukhuk..). And for me, it was one of THE album lah. Macam org cakap dalam review tu la, it grows on you. Mula2 beli yang pirate punyer jek kat PS. Tapi lepas lama2 layan, kurang feel. Lirik ape suma tak de. Beli yg ori punyer jugak. Damn, layan sial. Dan aku pon berkata pada diriku sendirik, aku nak collect cd ori audioslave lah!

I like soundgarden, ratm and audioslave. Aku tau ramai yang macam, watafak audioslave..? ragegarden? soundmachine??. But for me, i think they managed to stand up as a different new entity even though their previous bands have such sound, reputation (?) and all that. They started fresh and somehow i think thats what i need to do after the big fall masa tu. I want to have a new fresh start with a new fav band and audioslave came up just in time. When the 2nd album 'Out of Exile' kluar, my life seem to be going ok and i feel that the band is growing up with me. Its one of the band that provided the soundtrack (atau runut bunyi cakap melayu.. hahaha!) of my life..... cewaaaahh.....

Blom sempat lagi nak beli third album 'Revelation' disebabkan asyik bertangguh2 (alasan: takde masa atau takde budget atau kedua-duanya skali) Chris Cornell dah quit plak. Alahai....So persoalan nyer skang, will Audioslave go on with a new singer or Rage Against The Machine is going on a permanent reunion?

V-Day Entry Special

ONE

Long Romances by K.

Sometimes the advice older people give you seems to be way out in left field, Voyeurwebbers, but sometimes all that experience produces a little wisdom.

Meet Frank and Anita Milford, Britain's longest-married couple, Voyeurwebbers. How long? They will soon celebrate their 79th wedding anniversary. Yep, they tied the knot back on May 26, 1928. The couple first met at a YMCA dance in 1926 and married two years later at Torpoint Register Office in Cornwall.

Still happily and lovingly married, the Milfords say their secret is to make time for a little romance every day. See what Eye means? Pure wisdom.

Frank Milford, 99, is a retired dock worker. "We do everything together even after nearly 80 years," he told reporters. "But we don't go in for big Valentine's Day gestures, being in love is something you do every day."

Anita, 98, added: "Couples these days don't last because they don't take enough time for each other, there isn't enough respect. Love is about give and take."

According to press reports, the Milfords have their eyes on the record for the longest-ever British marriage - set by Percy and Florence Arrowsmith, from Hereford, who were married 80 years.

Truth behind Valentines

The primary motive behind Valentines is $$$money$$$. And plenty of it! Hallmark is cleverly cashing in on the sales of Valentines Day greeting cards. The same with people who sell flowers, Candy and cute cuddly bears. They all do this under the guise of something called Love.

They do this while making single people feel sad, degrading them. Society forces you to feel inadequate and less of a person because you are not involved in a "relationship". They alienate you because you choose to be celibate. They ostracize you because you are content with a romantic less relationship. They surround you with sickening displays of kissing, cupids, hearts, and public displays of affection until it forces you to puke!

Valentines has a bad effect on the general population of the human race. For example, instead of pleasantly surprising someone you care. People now expect gifts to be exchanged in a Valentine's ritual. Giving gifts to make someone feel special should have personal motives (motives of honestly trying to make that person feel good) not a ritual because society and people around you expect it.

When it comes down to it Valentines is a overrated capitalistic invention by Hallmark to make money with sick side affects of lowering self-esteem of many individuals.

Eternal Embrace..? Couple still hugging 5, 000 years on

ROME (Reuters) - Call it the eternal embrace.

Archaeologists in Italy have discovered a couple buried 5,000 to 6,000 years ago, hugging each other.

"It's an extraordinary case," said Elena Menotti, who led the team on their dig near the northern city of Mantova.

"There has not been a double burial found in the Neolithic period, much less two people hugging -- and they really are hugging."

Menotti said she believed the two, almost certainly a man and a woman although that needs to be confirmed, died young because their teeth were mostly intact and not worn down.

"I must say that when we discovered it, we all became very excited. I've been doing this job for 25 years. I've done digs at Pompeii, all the famous sites," she told Reuters.

"But I've never been so moved because this is the discovery of something special."

A laboratory will now try to determine the couple's age at the time of death and how long they had been buried.

......................................................................................................................................................................

aahh... true love... kata kau.

Kau rasa rongga badan kau panas semacam. Langit nampak lagi biru dari semalam. Pelangi pulak muncul walaupun takde hujan turun petang tu. Kau dengar burung2 macam menyanyi untuk kau.Kau mula berangan yang manis-manis.....
aahh... true love...

Sape ntah tiba-tiba datang terajang rusuk kiri kau dari belakang. Terus kau tersungkur, cium pepejal bumi kat bawah. Belum sempat kau bangun, dia dah pijak kepala kau.

"oi brader... 5000 tahun dulu boleeh la crita true love apekejadah sume tu...5000 tahun dulu mana ada bmw 7 series. Mana ade banglo 3 tingkat siap dengan swimming pool. Mana ade Visa, Mastercard. Mana ade itu ini. Kamus Dewan/Oxford/Cambridge pon takde lagi nak daftarkan istilah social status, material possession, society standard, kolar putih, kolar biru suma tuh! Zaman kau ni, itu suma pra-syarat! Ape ke naif sgt kau ni?"

Kau kumpul sekuat tenaga kemudian cepat2 bangun, genggam penumbuk. Kau nak bagi sebijik kat muka dia, kau nak beta balik kata-kata mamat kurang ajar tu. Pahal tetiba tak bagi salam terus main terajang? Pahal tetiba nak sembang true love dengan kau? kau nak tanya. Pastu kau nak bagi lagi sebijik kat muka dia, sebelah kanan pulak.

Tapi baru kau sedar, hanya ade kau sorang je kat situ. Takde sape2 lagik di pandangan mata kau, keliling 360 darjah tempat kau berdiri sampai kaki langit.

Rongga badan kau tak panas lagi.
Langit dah tak sebiru tadi.
Pelangi tadik ntah mane pergi.
Tak ade burung2 menyanyi.

Hanya ada kau sorang aje kat situ.

Return of The Renegades of Funk !

AUDIOSLAVE/ex-RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello spoke to MTV.com about RAGE's decision to reunite for the eighth annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, on April 29. According to Morello, RAGE will be taking the stage with a singular mission in mind.

"To deliver a knockout blow to the Bush administration," Morello explained in his first interview since RAGE's reunion announcement January 22. "And hopefully, one night in the desert is all it will take. They're teetering, so ..."

"Is it coincidence that in the seven years that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE has been away that the country has slid into right-wing purgatory? I think not," he said. "It occurred to all of us that the times were right to see if we can knock the Bush administration out in one fell swoop, and we hope to do that job well. This administration has done enough damage that it may take generations to undo. This is an administration that believes it's beyond the laws of the land, which is fine for emperors, but not so great for presidents. One thing this president isn't above is the laws of physics, and there is no action without reaction. And we're part of that reaction."

For now, RAGE are playing just one show, Morello said — but he wouldn't rule out the possibility of future RAGE activities.

In anticipation of V-day

Valentine's Day is like herpes: just when you think its gone for good, it rears its ugly head once more. No wonder some people prefer to call it VD.

Yes, it's that special time of year when chocolate manufacturers and greetings card companies encourage you to demonstrate the extent of your fondness in cold, hard, cash (or the satin-covered equivalent) on February 14th.

Fuck that.

This year, celebrate or commiserate by sending an anti-valentine. Stick two fingers (or one, if you're that way culturally inclined) at any organisation with a vested interest which prescribes how and when to show your feelings. This year, don't say it with flowers: say it with bile.
